About TEIMO

The teaching profession in Europe today is faced with challenges which could not have been imagined a generation ago. Because of a rapidly changing world, teacher educators prepare teachers, who in turn prepare students for currently non- existing jobs, not yet invented technologies or unanticipated challenges related to all aspects of our lives. The OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) data from 2023 demonstrate once more teachers’ confidence and willingness to teach in challenging settings.

The barriers lie in the lack of resources and professional development opportunities which do not enable teachers to respond to these global challenges well. To respond to a permanently changing world, approaches to teaching and teacher education need to shift towards agile, efficacious, interdisciplinary and future-oriented skills and mindsets. This needs to be promoted and sustained from the start so that teacher education better guarantees teacher readiness and equips teachers and teacher educators with the tools needed to respond to a time of constant and rapid transitions.

International collaboration between teacher education programmes, students and staff, schools and teachers can contribute to this much needed shift. However, most of the teacher education programmes are strictly regulated, nationally oriented and miss the opportunity for long term student and staff mobility. Here, the current E+ programme introduces an alternative on these long term motilities: Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs).

Research shows that virtual and blended mobility can provide real international experiences. Providing a virtual or blended offer only, does not make it inclusive, nor internationalised (O’Dowd 2023). Based on the first two BIPs organized by the Teacher Education Network (TEN), a fundamental idea has emerged for organizing BIPs that should create a rich learning environment for students and lecturers in teacher education.

Work Packs

WP1

Project Management

aims to monitor the progress, quality and achievement of project activities, the budget, the time management, and potential risks.

WP2

Quality Assurance

aims to monitor and assure the overall quality of Blended intensive Programmes. Coordinating organization: OsloMET

WP3

Design of Virtual Components for BIPs

aims to design and realise inclusive and internationalised virtual components to be used in BIPs in teacher education programmes and beyond.

WP4

Logistic Guidelines for the realisation of BIPs

aims to ensure the smooth operational running of BIPs. The focus is logistics and implementation of both the virtual and physical components of BIPs.

WP5

Living Lab

aims to evaluate and implement the developed materials, approaches and guidance. Therefore, an extensive testing phase will be employed.

TEIMO aims to achieve a validated inclusive state-of-the-art Blended Intensive Programme for use in teacher education (and beyond). Teacher education is the focus of this project due to their essential role for shaping schools and pupils of the future. Learning from (culturally) diverse interaction is necessary and teachers consequently need to be equipped with the relevant competencies. Mobility opportunities in teacher education are limited due to rather strict national regulations.

STUDENTS can actively participate in inclusive BIPs in teacher education in Europe. STAFF will increase their expertise in inclusive BIPs options in teacher education.

STAFF will increase their expertise in inclusive BIPs options in teacher education.

THE INSTITUTIONS will be encouraged to embed inclusive BIPs in their teacher education programs and their institutional policy.

NATIONAL AGENCIES will be fostered to use the results to formulate quality requirements for BIPs and other inclusive virtual and blended mobility options with a focus in teacher education.
